Will Northeastern University issue an invitation to my parents or relatives to support their visitor visa application to attend convocation?

The university does not issue invitation letters for parents/relatives to attend convocation as the letter has to come from you as the graduate.  See this link below for IRCC’s instructions on how to write the letter:

Letter of invitation – Canada.ca

There are two documents you will need from Northeastern:

  • Your most recent transcript, and
  • A current enrollment verification letter

Here is the link to request transcript: Transcript Requests – Office of the University Registrar at Northeastern University

You can make enrollment letter request by emailing transcripts@northeastern.edu with this subject line: “Confirmation of Enrolment Vancouver DLI   O142031583162”.

Will Northeastern University help me apply for a US visa or issue a supporting letter for me to attend the convocation ceremony in Boston?

The visa you need to obtain to enter the US will depend on your nationality and will be assessed based on your personal situation, including factors such as your previous visa or travel history and your ability to demonstrate that you can self-fund your trip to the USA, and that you will leave as required.

To submit your US visa application, you will need to book an appointment at the closest US Consulate or Embassy: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas.html

The documents you will need from Northeastern are the same as those listed above.

Will the Commencement Ceremonies be livestreamed?

Livestreams will be made available on the Commencement Office website on the day of the ceremony. Recordings of the livestream will also be available the week after the ceremonies.

Will I receive my diploma during the ceremony?

No, all diplomas will be mailed directly to students 4-6 weeks after your conferral date.

You will provide your diploma mailing address when you apply to graduate in mid-October.

What is the dress code for the ceremonies?

We recommend business casual attire for graduates and guests.  Regalia is required for all graduates who are attending.

How do I sign up for a flag?

At the Commencement Ceremony each year, we celebrate Northeastern’s diverse and global graduating class by asking graduates to wave flags representing their home country, a location they did a global experience, or a place of importance to them. To register for a flag click here.
